Services for Austin Rice Brown, 86, of Clay, were conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 26, at Townsend Funeral Home in Dixon. Minister Rex Childs officiated, with burial in Fairview Cemetery in Dixon.
He died at 11:43 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 23, 2008, at Shemwell Nursing Home in Providence.
He was born in Webster County, KY, on Sept. 25, 1921. He was a farmer, a World War II veteran, and a lifetime member of VFW Post No. 5484 in Providence, KY. He was a member of the American Legion in Clay and a Ditch Commissioner in Webster County. He was also a member of NRA, and member of Fairview Church of Christ in Dixon.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Roseann Brown in 1947 and his wife, Wilma Joan Brown in 2005.
Survivors include two daughters, Judith Joan Brown of Owensboro, KY, and E Carolyn Brown Tucker of Dixon, KY; three brothers, Johnny Brown of Madisonville, KY, and Billy and Bobby Brown, both of Dixon, KY; a sister, Juanita Nally of Clay, KY; two grandchildren, Tarrolyn Newton of Ft. Worth, TX, and Tami Simpson of Bowling Green, KY; six great-grandchildren, Allen Clark, Blake Newton, Brookolyn Newton, Colby Clark, Jeremiah Simpson, and Nathan Simpson.
Visitation was from 5 to 8 p.m. on Monday at the funeral home and 8 a.m. until service time on Tuesday. pd.
