Clay Elementary fourth grade students have been busy the last few weeks.
A project initially proposed by students Markie Steiner and Becca Steiner to collect clothing and shoe items eventually ballooned into a project encompassing both fourth-grade classes at the school. The items collected are being sent to Haiti children as part of the disaster relief effort following the devastating earthquake that struck the country in January.
The Steiners girls’ mother, Meredith Steiner, said her daughters got the idea during a family discussion at home when their father told them about a relief effort taking place through his employer.
Meredith Steiner said the students have collected approixmately eight 25-gallon tubs of clothes and shoes since they began the project. It wraps up this week.
Students that helped collect items in the two fourth grade classes include Todd McVay, Bailey Stone, Sarah DeGarmo, Nathan Pollard, Blake Moxley, Chazz Vandiver, Faith Miller, Cheyenne Knight, Markie Steiner, Becca Steiner, Jordain McVay, Reed Steiner, Jaxon Brown, Mike Foe, Austin Hoag, Leah Martinez, Conner Durban, Ethan Wallace, Priscilla Martinez, Dailyn Wyatt, Britney Gibson, Ella Rich, Kendra Woodward, Monica Whitten, Jesse Vancleave, Madelyn Mitchell, Carrie Grace McCormick, Korie Clark, Lexi Summers, Brooke McVay, Kyle Oglesby, Jade Townsend, Daniel Duncan, Hailey Capps, Gunnar Schneider, Caleb Justice, Kayla Farmer, and Destiny Cavazos.
