The WCHS Lady Trojans are well on their way to their second straight 20-win season, posting two more victories last week and upping their record to a very impressive 16-5.

Webster demolished Livingston Central on Tuesday and then earned a little revenge against Daviess County last Thursday.

The Webster girls travel to Apollo Friday night in Owensboro and then participate in the Western Kentucky Shootout on Saturday hosted by Hopkins County Central. WC will take on Grayson County in the one-day event.

It was a total team effort last Tuesday as the Lady Trojans had little trouble with an out-manned Lady Cardinal squad in Dixon gym.

WC head coach Christina Whitsell substituted freely throughout the contest as 13 Lady Trojans hit the scoring column. Stephanie Householder led the way with 17 points, 11 coming in the first half.

Lynette Harris added 10 points as most of the Webster starters saw limited minutes. Ellie Steiner finished with 14 points, including one 3-pointer.

Webster raced out to a commanding 18-0 and held the Lady Cardinals scoreless until the 1:21 mark of the first quarter. WCHS closed out the first period with a bulging 20-2 advantage.

Back-to-back buckets from reserve guard Mariah Herrera pushed the lead to 26-3 with 5:08 left in the second quarter and then built a 35-11 margin at intermission.

Harris opened the second half with consecutive baskets in the paint and Caylee Duncan nailed a 3-pointer to give the Lady Trojans a 48-17 lead with 2:25 left in the third stanza. WC closed out the period with a 6-0 run for a 54-17 advantage.

Livingston outscored WC 21-17 in the final eight minutes as most of Webster’s damage came at the free throw line, hitting 11-of-14 attempts.

Herrera chipped in with nine points, followed by Duncan’s five points and four points apiece from Morgan Major and Brooke Ross. Haylee Householder and Ellie Green added one field goal apiece while Kerstin Hayes, Aleisha Stone, Erin Deal and Natalie Green scored one free throw each.

On Dec. 30, the Lady Panthers handed Webster a disappointing four-point loss during the Owensboro Holiday Classic at Daviess County High School.

Last Thursday, the Lady Trojans got revenge with a dominating victory back in the same gym.

Ellie Steiner led a second quarter charge that saw the WC girls use a 28-15 scoring advatange to take control of the contest. Steiner scored 12 of her game-high 24 points in the period as Webster extended a 20-14 first quarter lead to 48-29 at halftime. Steiner drilled four 3-pointers in the victory.

Stephanie Householder pumped in 11 points in the first quarter to jump-start the Webster offense. She finished with 18 points.

Webster maintained a solid lead after three quarters of play, 59-41, and then used the inside-outside play of Harris (six points) and Steiner (seven points) in the final eight minutes to secure the victory. Harris finished with 16 points while Kerstin Hayes nailed one 3-pointer and contributed with seven points, all coming in the first half.

Caylee Duncan scored six points and Morgan Major completed the offense with three points.
