Sebree council agrees to bid for natural gas franchise

J-E staff report

Sebree city councilmembers worked through a fairly full agenda at their second meeting of the year on Monday.

The meeting began with an auditor report by city auditor Jud Royster with Campbell, Royster, Carver, McBride and Company.

Following the presentation, the council, approved an ordinance that will allow the city to advertise for bids “for the creation and sale of a franchise for the privilege of constructing, transporting, operating, maintaining, and distributing natural gas along and under public right-of-way within the city of Sebree... for a term of 20 years, and further establishing a bid procedure for the award of said franchise to the successful bidder.”

The council also offered praise to Sebree Police Chief Randy Durbin, Webster County Deputy Steve Madden, and Webster County Dog Warden John Dunn for the way they handled a job regarding a stray pit bull. Members also took time during the meeting to thank city employees for their efforts at snow removal.

Before adjourning, council members were told a supposed water leak along Henderson and Dixon streets was “dug out and tested,” but that city workers found no chemicals in the water, and determined the puddle to be surface water around the pipe.

The council then adjourned.
