George Odis Brown left his family to join his beloved wife in the heavens March 2, 2010.
He was born September 29, 1918, in Webster County, KY. He graduated from Wheatcroft High School in Wheatcroft, KY in 1937, and joined the Navy in 1938, one of the three best decisions of his life. He retired from Naval service in 1958 as a Chief Storekeeper and continued his service to his country by working at the Pensacola Naval Air Station as an air-frames mechanic until his retirement in 1978. He then served as a Red Cross volunteer at the Naval Hospital Pharmacy for over 20 years.
He married his hometown sweetheart, Mary Virginia, in Reno, Nevada, on January 1, 1943. Another of his self proclaimed three best decisions..
He is preceded in death by his wife Mary Virginia Price.
He is survived by one daughter and son-in-law, Georgann and Roger McDonald of Pensacola; one son and daughter-in-law Roger and Karen Brown of Wabash, IN, his daughter, Sara Brown of Pensacola; two grandsons, Dwayne McDonald and his wife, Leillanya of Pensacola and Thomas Brown and his wife Melissa of Indianapolis, IN; he has three great-granddaughters, Morgan, Meagan and Katie Williams.
He spent his life devoted to his wife, Mary, and raising their children in the love and admonition of the Lord. He instilled his children with the importance of education, integrity, faithfulness and duty, along with mischievousness and a sly sense of humor.
The last, but certainly not least of George’s ‘best decisions’ was excepting Jesus Christ as his personal Savior. George was a committed Christian who served Bellview Baptist Church, in almost every capacity, for almost 60 years.
Friends and family gathered at Bellview Baptist Church, 4750 Saufley Field Road on March 5, 2010 at 2 p.m. for funeral services. Interment followed at Bellview Baptist Church Cemetery.
Faith Chapel Funeral Home South, 100 Beverly Parkway was in charge of the arrangments.
