Minerva Bone Bassett

Minerva Bone Bassett, was born May 17, 1915, in Jacksonville, Texas. She was the daughter of Dr. John N. Bone and Roxie Brasfield Bone.

She finished Jacksonville High School, salutorian in class of 88 students. She graduated with honors from Jacksonville College, and received a B.A. degree with honors from Cumberland University, in Lebanon, TN.

She married William Kerr Bassett on January 14, 1939, in Berkeley, California. She made her home in San Francisco, CA, Washington, DC, Long Beach, CA, Alexandria, VA and Bethesda, MD, then moved to Tyler, TX, in September 1992.

She was active in civic, and club affairs, and in genealogical circles.

She was preceded in death by her husband, William Kerr Bassett, and sisters, Mrs. Alma Rich Beall and Mrs. Kathryn Chatfield.

She is survived by her sons, William Kerr Bassett II of Castalian Springs, TN, John Bone Bassett and wife Carla, of Newark, Delaware; granddaughters, Jennifer Bassett Ruzinski and husband, Rick of Castalian Springs, TN, and Deborah Bassett Parrish and husband, Christian of Bowling Green, and Miriam Bassett Scherer and husband Wayne Scherer of Benton, PA; great-grandson, Kyle Burk Rudzinski of Castalian Springs, TN; great-granddaughters, Jacquelyn Rachel Scherer of Benton, PA; one brother, Dr. Robert Bone and wife, Marsha, of Emerald Bay, Bullard, TX; two sisters, Mrs. Frances Urban and husband, Robert of Tyler TX, and Dr. Mary Alice Bone Adamson and husband, Judge John Robert, of Jacksonville, TX and many nephews and nieces.

A graveside service will be held on Wednesday, March 31, at 11 a.m. at the City Cemetery in Jacksonville with arrangements made by Autry Funeral Home.
