An attempted traffic stop on the Providence Bypass ended in a high speed police chase through two counties on Saturday, and ended with a Dawson Springs man behind bars.

According to the PPD, a 2010 Chevy HHR driven by William Hoggard, 32 of Dawson Springs, was spotted by Officer Carl Scheer traveling at a high rate of speed. When the officer attempted to conduct a routine traffic stop, the suspect accelerated.

Reaching speeds of over 100 mph, Hoggard led Scheer onto US 41A and into Hopkins County. At the Madisonville city limits, MPD and the Hopkins County Sheriff’s Department took over pursuit. The chase led through Madisonville, Earlington and Nortonville before ending on US 62 in St. Charles.

Hoggard was taken into custody and found to be wanted on a parole violation. He was additionally charged with speeding, fleeing or evading, reckless driving, wanton endangerment and disregarding a stop sign.

He was housed at the Hopkins County Detention Center.
