Former Webster County sheriff Donald Jones is serving a three month home incarceration after pleading guilty to two charges in March.
Jones changed his plea of not guilty to guilty as part of a plea deal that avoided a sentence to serve time in a detention facility.
The guilty plea was to tampering with a witness, a Class D felony, and first-degree official misconduct, a Class A misdemeanor. Both charges carried a term of one year to be served concurrently.
Jones was granted pretrial diversion for the felony charge on a motion by his attorney, Dax Womack. The diversion period is for three years, and will be reviewed on Feb. 16, 2026, to determine whether all conditions were met.
The remainder of his sentence, which is nine months on each charge, is probated two years.
In addition to home incarceration, Jones is permanently banned from employment as a law enforcement officer.
Where final judgments are typically distributed through electronic means, the paperwork from the office of special counsel in this case was sent to Webster Circuit Court Clerkâs office via USPS, according to local court officials.
