Voters will have a number of contested elections on the ballot Nov. 8. The Journal-Enterprise has reached out to the candidates in those races to give them an opportunity to state their case for Webster County residents’ votes.
Each candidate was given a maximum of 200 words to tell voters about themselves and state why they are seeking their respective offices. These statements will run exactly as they were sent to us, with only minor formatting changes made.
Statements will be run with the incumbent first and challenger second. In the case of non-partisan races with more than one challenger, they will appear in alphabetical order.
Following are the statements made by the candidates for Sebree mayor:
As your elected Mayor I, Robert Brantley have a vision for the future of Sebree. As a lifetime resident of Sebree, this town is my heart and I will work to see that the citizens of Sebree are supported, heard, and appreciated. I have volunteered at local functions, festivals, and have been an active member in my church and countless hours coaching soccer with the children of Sebree. I want to see more thriving businesses that allows our citizens to shop local and provide more revenue for Sebree. I have extensive plans to improve and clean up subdivisions, emphasizing the beauty that was once a staple to our booming town. I will work with county officials, city council, and local government to better Sebree. The children of Sebree are our future and they are the infrastructure of our town. We must pour into our youth by providing them with ample opportunities to succeed and grow. I want to provide good memories for our future leaders, the children of Sebree. I would appreciate your consideration as I hope to provide a safe, involved environment that you can be proud to raise your children in.
Your Mayor Elect, Robert Brantley
Numerous opportunities for improvement exist in Sebree. I am prepared and excited to serve as a leader in our city to make the improvements happen. With that being said, leadership doesn’t require a position in office. I haven’t waited until the outcome of the election to take action and be the leader Sebree deserves.
I have already started the research and preparation of grant applications. I have reinstated a successful baseball program for our youth. Through hard work of program publicity, and reconstructing the field at Sebree Springs Park, the 2022 year brought in nearly 150 children from Sebree and other surrounding cities. Mobile businesses came to our park in Sebree during this time.
Efforts of this nature result in growth financially and in our community. Many additional plans for the future of Sebree are underway. Incorporating technology, maintaining efficient communication, civic engagement initiatives, accountability, and the focus on financial stability and growth are all necessary.
Financial audits, budget plans, and policy review will be an immediate action taken. My volunteer hours are countless and my ambition is unstoppable. The citizens of Sebree have an obvious choice this election.
Vote Jeremy Brown for Mayor.

After being asked, and giving it much consideration, I agreed to become a candidate for Mayor. I have given much thought to the position and goals I would strive to accomplish for our Town. A few of my goals include working with the Town Council on these projects:
Attract industry & increase jobs;
Plan town meetings where ALL citizens can exchange positive thoughts and ideas on issues, projects and improvements that affect this community;
Apply for grants to build a community center;
Revitalize Sebree Springs Park;
Seek funding for a Water Park;
Develop a venue for a farmer’s market;
Revive horse shows at Sebree Springs Park.
These important goals will require the help and involvement of the fine citizens of this community to move forward.
As a lifelong resident and retiree, I would invest my time to make the office of Mayor a full-time position. My years of service on the Webster County School Board has provided me valuable experience working with budgets for the improvement of our school programs. This will be an important tool in fulfilling the duties as Mayor.
I respectfully request your VOTE for Mayor in the November 8th election. Thank you, James (“Jim”) Nance.
