Work continues on the county-owned Walker Lake facility near Dixon, despite the opening of the park being delayed at least until the spring of next year.

Road Department Supervisor Randy Norman told the Fiscal Court on Monday that a number of improvements had been completed, while others were ongoing. The county has finished installation of the new kayak launch and boar dock, and is about to begin pouring concrete for a new boat ramp. The parking lot near the dock has been widened to allow for more traffic. Plans are also being made to begin the installation of water lines to the park for future development.

J.T. Jones with the road department reported that he was currently involved in talks with a company that develops walking trails in nature parks and arboretums.

“I know people are excited to get the park open,” said Judge Executive Steve Henry. “There is a lot of work being done, but we still have a lot more to do before we’re ready to open.”
