Jacob Derksen, 81 of 875 Wannamaker Road Dixon, passed away into eternal rest on Thursday, Oct. 8, 2020, at Deaconess Hospital in Evansville, IN, of complications due to COVID-19.
He was born in Swan Plain, Saskatchewan, Canada to Peter and Helena (Goertzen) Derksen on March 31, 1939. He married Mary Krahn on Sept. 2, 1962. He was a loving husband and father, and took special interest in his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was dedicated to his family, loving, loyal, caring and had a compassionate heart for others. He accepted Christ and was baptized on May 5, 1960. He was a faithful member of the Deer Creek Amish Mennonite Church until his death.
In addition to his wife Mary, he is survived by his 6 sons and 6 daughters. Susan (Willie) Martens of Stonefort, IL; Bill (Mary Kathryn) Derksen of Wayne City, IL; Peter Derksen at home, Dixon, KY; Margaret (Joe) Miller of Stonefort, IL; Mary (Julian) Yoder of Zanesville, OH; John (Miriam) Derksen of Asheboro, NC; Abe (Rachel) Derksen of Sebree, KY; Jake (Cheryl) Derksen of Dixon, KY; Lena (Steve) Borntrager of Mt. Sterling, KY; Henry Derksen at home, Dixon, KY; Esther (Aaron) Chupp of Gallipolis, OH; Lisa (Paul) Beiler of Sumner, IL; 65 grandchildren and 26 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death his parents, 3 brothers and 1 stillborn granddaughter.
Funeral services were held on Monday, Oct. 12, 2020, at 10 a.m. at Deer Creek Amish Mennonite Church in Sebree, KY, with Bishop Timothy Beachy officiating. Interment in the adjoining cemetery. Visitation was held on Sunday, Oct. 11, 2020, from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Deer Creek Amish Mennonite Church 8485 St. Rt. 132 East Sebree, KY. Townsend Funeral Home in Dixon, KY handled the arrangements.
