One former Webster County softball player will get the chance to compete with some of the best softball players in the world this week when the Liberty University Lady Flames travel to the Eddie C. Moore Complex in Clearwater, FL for the St. Pete Clearwater Elite Invitational Presented by Wilson.

Providence-native and 2019 WCHS graduate Karlie Keeney and her team have been invited be a part of the 16 team field, which includes the reigning national champions, the UCLA Bruins. The tournament will feature more than 40 games, which will be available on one of the ESPN Networks (ESPN2, ESPNU, ACC Network, SEC Network, ESPN3 and the ESPN App) from Thursday, February 13 through Sunday, February 16.

The Lady Flames will face three 2019 Women’s College World Series competitors during the tournament, including the defending national champions, as well as the 2018 national champion Florida State Seminoles.

As an added bonus, Liberty will get to help kick-off the four day tournament by playing in an exhibition game against Team USA on later tonight (Wednesday, February 12) at 5:00 p.m.. Team USA has added this date to its “Stand Beside Her” tour, as the national team gears up for the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games. The tour includes stops in 17 different states.

During her time as a Lady Trojan, Keeney ammassed a career ERA of 1.08, while posting 81 wins, 909 strikeouts, batting .383, knocking 20 homers and hitting 129 RBIs.

During her debut season with the Lady Flames, Keeney has seen action in four of Librty’s first five games and posted a 1-1 record. Her only loss so far came against #15 ranked University of Kentucky, where she gave up 10 hits and five runs through 6.2 innings. In her most recent game, Keeney picked up the first win of her college career against No. 22 ranked Ole Miss, giving up 10 hits and just two runs through 7 innings.

Keeney starts her collgiate career with a 5.49 ERA.
