Webster County’s girls cross-country team placed three runners in the top ten overall Saturday, and claimed second place as a team in the Maroon Classic Saturday at Madisonville-North Hopkins.
The Lady Trojans actually tied at 30 team points with host MNHHS in the meet, but the Lady Maroons earned the win on the strength of their team 6th-place runner. MNHHS scored 13 points to Webster’s 14 in that category. Just 11 seconds separated those two places.
Webster County posted scores of 3, 4, 5, 8, and 10, while Madisonville-North claimed 1, 2, 6, 9, and 12. Webster’s combined time was 2:04:25.78, and the Lady Maroons’ was 2:02:47.21.
Webster was paced by Mayci Moore, who crossed the finish line in 23:02.28 to take 5th place.
Reece Powell ran for 7th place in 24:11.34, with her sister, Ryleigh Powell, coming in at 25:04.45 to take 9th place.
In 12th place was Grayson Haynes, who contributed a 25:43.00 time to the WCHS cause, while Drue Wyatt added the final scoring position of 16th with 26:24.71 on the clock.
Ava Stone provided the run-off finish for Webster County, scoring 14 points in a 24th place finish of 28:33.50.
Running outside the scoring for the Lady Trojans were Lilly Whitsell in 28th (31:06.19), Delani Baskett in 29th (31:22.10), Carolione Nalley in 35th (33:39.58), Emily Major in 41st (35:20.25), and Molley Utley in 42nd (35:49.29).
Madisonville-North Hopkins’ Joy Alexander finished 2nd in the meet, posting a time of 20:52.50. She was followed by Laci Ray in 4th with a 22:59.74 clocking. Rounding out the Lady Maroons in scoring were Audrey Tate in 10th (25:19.10), Emma Evans in 14th (25:56.74), and Josie Morris in 19th (27:39.13). Kamarie Wiles’ 22nd-place finish in 28:22.61 was the deciding score to give MNHHS the win in the meet.
Northwest High School out of Clarksville, TN, was 3rd with 69 team points (7, 11, 16, 17, and 18) and a combined time of 2:30:24.36.
Morgan Kobylinski of Ohio County, which did not field a whole team in the meet, was the overall medalist with a time of 20:24.43.
The Lady Trojans are scheduled to run in the Owensboro Invitational Saturday at Yellow Creek Park.
The girls’ meet is set to begin at 10:00 a.m.
