Webster County is a serious contender for the Second Region title, but the Lady Trojans could not look past rival Union County in the first round of the Sixth District Tournament.

The Lady Trojans would keep their focus, romping to a 58-18 victory over the Bravettes to advance to the title game against Henderson County on Thursday night.

Webster County came firing right out of the gate with an 18-7 lead at the end of the first quarter thanks to four 3-pointers in the period, and the Lady Trojans held the Bravettes to just one field goal in the second quarter to take a 28-9 advantage into the locker room.

The floodgates really opened in the third quarter when the Lady Trojans exploded for 25 points while holding the Bravettes to just five, and Webster was able to coast to victory in a game where the KHSAA-mandated running clock was forced into effect.

Sophomore Marissa Austin led the Lady Trojans with 15 points on three 3-pointers while junior Karlie Keeney and senior Jessica Winders each tallied 10 points.

Freshman Adeline McDyer poured in six, and fellow freshman Mariah Austin and senior Jamie Winstead each had five.

Freshman Sadie Wurth and sophomore Lana Eastwood each had three points, sophomore Alyssa Payne had a bucket, and senior Kelsey Payne rounded out the Lady Trojan attack with one free throw.

Webster County will now face Henderson County for the Sixth District title on Thursday night at Colonel Gym, with tip-off slated for 7 p.m.

The Lady Trojans and Lady Colonels have already met three times this season. Webster defeated Henderson 59-46 in the Owensboro Invitational Tournament on Dec. 23 and 62-35 in Dixon on Jan. 9, but the Lady Colonels dealt the Lady Trojans a 64-53 loss at Colonel Gym on Jan. 26.
