Webster County had to dig down deep and find its resilience in Calhoun on Thursday night, and the Lady Trojans did just that.

After trailing McLean County 40-30 early in the fourth quarter, the Lady Trojans outscored the Lady Cougars 18-3 the rest of the way to leave Calhoun with a hard-earned 48-43 victory.

Sophomore Marissa Austin scored all seven of her points to rally the Lady Trojans, and netted five-of-six foul shots in the closing period.

Junior Karlie Keeney and senior Jamie Winstead each scored a team-high 12 points, and Keeney knocked down Webster County’s only two three-pointers on the night.

Senior Jessica Winders followed with 11 points for Webster County in the victory. The sister duo of Alyssa and Kelsey Payne each scored three, and freshman Adeline McDyer rounded out the Lady Trojans’ scoring with two.

McLean County was led by senior Whitley Patterson with 15 points while fellow senior Lauren Hudson tallied seven.

Webster County also won the junior varsity game by a score of 32-24. Freshman Mariah Austin led the Lady Trojans with 13, while McDyer added eight.

The Lady Trojans had a home game against Hopkins County Central on Tuesday night, but the conclusion of that game was after press time.

Webster’s next game will be on Saturday at 1:45 p.m. at the Messenger Tip-Off Classic. The Lady Trojans will face Murray High School. The Lady Tigers were 1-1 as of press time. The two teams last met on Dec 11, 2015, when Murray handed the Lady Trojans a 52-39 loss.
