It has been nearly a decade since anyone other than Webster County has been atop the podium in the boys cross-country Class AA First Region.

The Trojans made it nine consecutive seasons as First Region champions last Saturday when they were the best of six teams at Cadiz.

The title earns them the chance at a state title Friday at the Bourbon County Park in Paris. The boys’ Class AA race is scheduled to begin at 5:00 pm local time in Paris, 4:00 pm Central Time.

WCHS won with 33 team points, 14 better than second-place Trigg County at 47. Calloway County took the final podium spot with 57 team points.

The Trojans’ team scoring came from individual scores of 3, 4, 5, 9, and 12. Their average time was 17:21.

Trevor Baker has been a dominating force for Webster all season, and he did not disappoint at regionals, claiming a podium spot at 3rd with a time of 16:54.55.

Austin Cavanaugh of Trigg County won the individual meet in 16:24.37, while Calloway County’s Daniel Puckett was second in 16:37.41.

Garrett West and Layden Wagoner both earned top five finishes in the race. West crossed the finish line in 4th with a 16:57.40 run, while Wagoner was 5th in 16:57.59.

Aiden Whitsell crossed the finish line in the top 10, claiming 9th with 17:53.19 on the clock. Preston Glassco rounded out WCHS scoring with an 18:02.76 time for 12th place.

Running outside the scoring for Webster were Bryce Nelson in 13th at 18:06.71, and Liam Farris in 29th at 20:09.51.

The rest of the team field finished as follows: Trigg County (4th, 107 points); Paducah Tilghman (5th, 112); and Hopkins County Central (6th, 169). There were 39 runners competing.
