The Trojans opened the 2020 football season at home on Friday night against the Murray High School Tigers.

WCHS got off to a rough start, giving up two passing and one rushing touchdown, as well as a safety to open the game, giving the Tigers a 30-0 at the end of the first quarter. In the second quarter the Trojan defense stepped up, holding Murray to just one score. Quarterback Rowdy Sokolowski ran a quarterback keeper up the field and scored a touchdown mid way through the second quarter to give the Tigers a 37-0 heading into the locker room.

The Trojans started the second half with a much more solid defense and held the Tigers to a touchdown run by the senior running back, Charvelle McCallister, and a field goal by the backup sophomore kicker, Kyra Jones, as the Tigers held a 47-0 lead heading into the fourth quarter.

In the final period, the Trojans held the Tigers scoreless and the Trojans themselves scored on a 74 yard pass from senior Mason Wilson to receiver Danile Yates.

The point after by Noah Duncan was unsuccessful and the Trojans went on to lose the first game of the season by a score of 47-6 to the Murray Tigers.

Senior quarterback Mason Wilson threw 9 for 17 for 119 yards with one touchdown pass and one interception on the night. Senior fullback Tanner Robertson ran the ball 4 times for 8 total yards while senior running back Kale Bumpus rushed the ball 4 times for 4 total yards. Senior wide receiver Daniel Yates had 3 receptions for 87 yards and 1 touchdown on the night. Senior wide receiver Dylan Sowders had 2 receptions for 13 yards while senior wide receiver Livonte Dale had 2 receptions for 8 yards. Senior wide receiver Taylor Chandler had 1 reception for 7 yards while junior wide receiver Cade Bean had 1 reception for 4 yards.

As a team, the Trojans only had 73 yards of total offense and one touchdown on the night. The Trojans had 23 solo tackles, 9 assisted tackles, for 32 tackles total while also having 4 tackles for loss and 1 defensive sack.

The Trojans look to bounce back in week two as they head to Campbell County to face the Dayton Green Devils.
