Spring break started off rough for Webster County’s baseball team, as the Trojans took some tough losses headed into their tournament appearance.

Webster County jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the first inning, but University Heights Academy chipped way to take the lead in the fourth inning en route to a 15-6 win in Dixon last Tuesday.
The Blazers scored a run in the second, two in the third, then claimed a 6-4 advantage with three scores in the fifth. They blew the game open in the sixth with six runs.
The Trojans struggled defensively, committing nine errors in the field. Those miscues led to 12 unearned runs for UHA.
Despite the loss, WCHS stayed true to form offensively, pecking away at the Blazers with singles and walks. All six of the Trojans’ hits were singles, and they worked four walks in the contest.
Canaan Taylor went 2-for-3 with one RBI and a run scored.
Jackson Edens scored twice in a 1-for-3 performance.
Jace Thurby, Brennan Ferrell, and David Wingo all posted hits for Webster. Ferrell, Wingo, and Micah Austin all drove in runs.

Webster County was efficient on offense, getting five runs on six hits Saturday. But Hickman County worked nine walks to take an 11-5 win in the first game of a double header in Dixon.
The Falcons owned a 5-0 lead after two innings, then held off WCHS in the middle frames. The Trojans scored two in the bottom of the seventh, but Hickman was able to close the door on the rally.
Pryce Pearcy went 2-for-4 on the day with a run scored.
Cooper Logan drove in a pair, going 1-for-1.
Micah Austin, Canaan Taylor, and Trace Hardison all registered hits for the Trojans. Taylor, Hardison, and Jace Thurby each drove in one run.

Webster County avenged its loss in the first game with a dominating performance in the second against Hickman County, riding a six-run second inning to a 10-1 victory.
The Trojans singled three times and worked three walks in the frame. They also took advantage of base running opportunities on fielder’s choice plays to build the lead.
Webster added another run in the fourth inning and three in the sixth.
The Trojans returned to form on stolen bases, taking 12 in the win. Micah Austin led the team with five, followed by Jackson Edens with four. Trace Hardison, Canaan Taylor, and Jace Thurby stole one bag each.
Austin also paced the team at the plate, going 3-for-3 with three runs.
Edens was 2-for-3 with two runs scored and two RBIs.
Taylor drove in a pair in a 1-for-2 performance.
Brock Parker went 1-for-1 with an RBI and a run scored.
Micah Austin got the complete game win in a dominating day on the mound. He allowed just one run on three hits, striking out 12 and walking only one.

Trigg Co. 13
Trigg County pushed six runs across the plate in the third inning Monday in Cadiz, taking a 13-5 win from Webster County.
The Wildcats also worked 12 walks in the contest, and took advantage of six WCHS errors.
Micah Austin, Jace Thurby, Pryce Pearcy, and Harrison Warren each posted hits for the Trojans. RBIs came from Austin, Thurby, and Canaan Taylor.
Webster stole 13 bases in the game, led by Austin’s four. Jackson Edens and Brock Parker pilfered three apiece, and Trace Hardison posted a pair. Thurby stole one.
The Trojans played Allen County-Scottsville Wednesday after press time in the Adair County Spring Break Classic. They return to action this afternoon at 3 p.m. to play the host school, then finish the tournament Friday in a game to be determined. They return home Monday and Tuesday for 5:30 p.m. first pitches against Whitesville Trinity and Trigg County, respectively.
