Webster County continued to show dominance in cross country over the weekend when both the boys and girls cross country teams ran in the Region 1 Class AA meet in Murray. The Trojans claimed a commanding victory in taking their eighth consecutive regional title, with the Lady Trojans grabbing the regional runner-up spot. Both teams will advance to the state track meet this weekend.
Trevor Baker led the way for the Trojans on Saturday, traversing the course in 17:34:89 to finish second overall in the boys’ meet. Aiden Whitsell (18:05:26) was fourth, followed by Garrett West (18:06:58) in fifth. Layden Wagoner (18:38:09) crossed the line in eighth and Vincent Major (18:43:49) finished ninth to round out Webster County’s scoring efforts. Ryan Roland (18:45:63) finished the meet in tenth, with Grant Warren (19:20:68) crossing the line in 16th. Major, Roland and Warren are all seniors.
Webster County took the top spot in the region, followed by Trigg County, Calloway County, Paducah Tilghman, Union County and Hopkins County Central.
The Lady Trojans also turned in a strong performance on Saturday, finishing second out of five teams in the meet to punch their own ticket to the state cross country meet.
Reece Powell was the highest finishing Lady Trojan. She crossed the line in 23:04:02 to take the sixth overall spot, with Ryleigh Powell close behind, taking in seventh spot with a time of 23:37:69. Ava Stone (24:16:95), Grayson Haynes (24:53:09) and Drue Wyatt (24:57:33) locked up the 11 through 13 spots to round out the teams scoring efforts. Delani Baskett (25:42:14) finished in 15th and Caroline Nalley (27:30:83) was 22.
Both teams advance to the state meet, which will be held on Friday at the Bourbon County Cross Country Course in Paris.
