The Madisonville-North Hopkins Maroon Classic cross country meet over the weekend was a tough one for the WCHS Trojans, but the young squad still produced some bright spots.
The Webster County Middle School boys finished second behind Daviess County Middle School in a field of ten teams by grabbing three finishing spots in the top ten overall.
Garrett West cross the line in third with a time of 8:26.70. Aiden Wildman came home in fourth in 8:32.30, and Layden Wagoner was ninth with a time of 8:50.70.
Aidan Whitsell finished 14th (9:16.30) and Bryce Nelson finished 25th (9:34.10) to grabbed the Trojans their final two scored positions.
The high school boys had just enough runners to qualify for a team score. They finished ninth out of thirteen teams at the annual meet.
Ryan Roland was the Trojan’s top runner, grabbing 19th with a time of 19:05.30. Noah O’Dell was 30th in 19:54.60. Vincent Major (75), Tristan Cates (85) and Titus Moody (97) wrapped up the high school boys efforts.
The Lady Trojans failed to field enough runners in either the middle school or high school ranks to produce a team score.
Gracie McMain was the top finishing Lady Trojan in the high school race, coming in 28th in a field of 82, crossing the line in 24:58.90. Carrie Grace McCormick grabbed 36th in 25:52.60. Running in her first ever high school race, seventh grader Jacey Hughes finished 38th with a time of 25:59.70. Colleen Glazebrook finished 42nd with a time of 26:19.40.
Three girls competed in the middle school race for the Lady Trojans.
Jena Marks finished in 12:10.10, good enough for 48th spot. Emily Major finished 66 in 14:54.80, and Carlee Drury crossed the line in 73rd with a time of 16:35.20.
This Saturday the teams head to Trigg County.
