The Trojans split a pair would games in the last week to advance to 2-1 on the season.

Webster County Trojans hosted the Murray Tigers last Tuesday night, January 5th, at home in Dixon.

The Trojans opened up the game by being in a tightly contested game against the Tigers. Murray grabbed the lead early, but was never able to pull away. By the end of the box Webster had tied the score at 19-19. The Trojans took their first lead of the night with 7:30 left in second period going on to outscore the Tigers 15-8 to take a 7 point lead going into halftime, with the score 34-27.

To begin the second half the Trojans would outscore the Tigers 17-10 as the Trojans would have a 14 point lead heading into the fourth quarter with the score 51-37. Then in the fourth quarter the Tigers would outscore the Trojans 25-21 but it would not be enough as the Trojans would come away with a 10 point victory over the Tigers with the score being 72-62. The Trojans improve to (2-0) on the season while the Tigers fall to (0-1).

The leading scorer for the Trojans was senior forward Destin Allen with 24 points while shooting 5 for 6 from the free throw line and grabbed 6 rebounds on the night. Senior forward Hunter McNaughton tallied 15 points while shooting 4 for 7 from the free throw line and grabbed 6 rebounds. Sophomore guard Bradin Nelson contributed 9 points while shooting 4 for 6 from the free throw while junior guard Aaron Harmon scored 7 points. Senior guard Holden Raley added 6 points by knocking down 2 three pointers while sophomore guard Markus Austin scored 5 points. Senior guard Ryan Roland added 4 points while shooting 2 for 2 from the free throw line while senior forward Grant Turner scored 2 points on the night.

As a team, the Trojans shot 17 for 23 from the free throw line and knocked down 7 three pointers and grabbed 26 total rebounds.

The (2-0) Trojans continued the season by taking on the Lyon County Lyons this past Friday night, January 8th, on the road in Eddyville.

The Trojans opened up the game by outscoring the Lyons 16-14 at the end of the first quarter. Then in the second quarter the Trojans would get outscored by the Lyons 15-10, as the Lyons held a 3 point lead at halftime with the score being 29-26.

Then to begin the second half the Trojans would get outscored by the Lyons 22-17, as the Lyons held a 8 point lead over the Trojans heading into the fourth and final quarter with the score 51-43. Then in the fourth and final quarter the Lyons would outscore the Trojans 20-11, as the Lyons would hand the Trojans their first loss of the season and win by 17 points with the score being 71-54. The Trojans would drop to (2-1) on the season while the Lyons would improve to (3-0).

The leading scorer for the Trojans was senior forward Hunter McNaughton with 13 points while shooting 6 for 6 from the free throw line and grabbing 5 rebounds on the night. Senior forward Destin Allen recorded a double-double by scoring 12 points and grabbing 10 rebounds while shooting 2 for 2 from the free throw line. Senior guard Ryan Roland contributed 11 points while shooting 2 for 4 from the free throw line while junior guard Aaron Harmon scored 9 points. Sophomore guard Bradin Nelson added 7 points while senior guard Grant Warren scored 2 points.

As a team, the Trojans shot 11 for 14 from the free throw line while grabbing total of 24 rebounds on the night.

The Trojans played the Hopkins County Central Storm on the road last night but that game was after press time.
