The Webster County boys basketball team picked up their first loss of the season over the weekend after starting the year on a 10-0 run.

The Trojans kicked-off post Christmas play with a trip to the Marlin Classic in Panama City Beach, Florida. On Friday they faced the Shelbyville Central Golden Eagles.

The Trojans started the game by playing unbelievable defense and holding the Golden Eagles to no points by outscoring them 21-0 at the end of the first quarter. In the second quarter the Trojans would again outscore the Golden Eagles 20-18 to give the Trojans a 41-18 lead going into halftime over the Golden Eagles.

In the second half the Trojans would once again outscore the Golden Eagles 16-2 by playing lock down defense and giving the Trojans a 57-20 heading into the fourth quarter. In the fourth and final quarter the Trojans would outscore the Golden Eagles 10-4 and come out with a victory by a score of 67-24 to improve to 10-0 on the season.

The leading scorer for the Trojans was senior point guard Tyler Camplin with 13 points while knocking down a three pointer. Sophomore guard Aaron Harmon tallied 12 points while knocking down a three pointer and shooting 1 for 1 from the free throw line. Senior forward Aden Winn contributed 10 points while junior forward Hunter McNaughton contributed 7 points but shot only 1 for 4 from the free throw line. Both junior forward Destin Allen and senior forward Zane Coy added six points each. Freshman guard Markus Austin scored four points while freshman guard Brandin Nelson scored two points. 2 for 2 from the free throw line. To round out the scoring for the Trojans, senior forward Zaine Geary added 1 point by shooting 1 for 2 from the free throw line.

As a team, the Trojans only knocked down 2 three pointers and only shot 5 for 10 or 50% from the free throw line. The leading scorer for the Shelbyville Central Golden Eagles was junior forward Jai Lain Anderson with 15 points while knocking down 2 three pointers.

Saturday night the Trojans took to the court against the Buford Wolves, the defending Class 5A state champions from the state of Georgia. Although Webster didn't come out on top in that game, they managed to end the game just five points behind one of the best teams in Georgia.

To start the game the Trojans would be outscored by the Wolves 22-8 at the end of the first quarter. Then in the second quarter the Trojans would outscore the Wolves 17-7 as heading into halftime the Wolves ahead of the Trojans by 4 points with the score being 29-25.

In the second half the Trojans would get outscored again by the Wolves 23-20 with the score being 52-45 with the Wolves ahead. In the fourth and final quarter the Trojans outscored the Wolves 21-19 with it being a dog fight in the final few minutes of the game but the Wolves would hold on to defeat the Trojans by 5 points with the score being 71-66 as the Trojans suffer their first loss of the season and move to 10-1 on the season.

The leading scorer for the Trojans was junior forward Destin Allen with 23 points while knocking down 2 three pointers and shooting 1 for 2 from the free throw line. Senior point guard Tyler Camplin tallied 20 points while knocking down 2 three pointers and shooting 6 for 7 from the free throw line. Senior forward Aden Winn contributed 11 points while knocking down 2 three pointers of his own while also shooting 1 for 2 from the free throw line. Junior forward Hunter McNaughton scores 9 points knocking down a three pointer and shooting 2 for 2 from the free throw line. To round out the scoring for the Trojans, senior forward Zaine Geary added 2 points and sophomore guard Aaron Harmon added 1 point.

As a team, the Trojans knocked down 7 three pointers and shot 11 for 15 or 73% from the free throw line. The leading scorer for the Buford Wolves was senior Sebastian Augustave with 26 points while knocking down 5 three pointers and shooting 7 for 10 from the free throw line.

The Trojans continued playing in the Marlin Classic in Panama City Beach, Florida last night against Bartram Trail from St. Johns, Florida but that game was after press time. The Trojans next game is this Friday night on the road against the Hopkins County Central Storm in Storm gym in Earlington, Kentucky at 7:00 P.M
