Webster County’s cross country teams ran one last meet before the postseason Saturday, competing in the Davies County Classic in Owensboro.

BoysThe Trojans were part of a crowded field of 23 teams and 226 runners at the Classic, but still fared better than most other western Kentucky teams. WCHS finished just off the podium in 4th, 35 team points off 3rd place Greenwood of Bowling Green.

Rock Bridge from Columbia, MO, took the meet title, improbably running its five scoring runners in the top five spots. The team from the Show Me State ended the day with 15 team points and a scoring time average of 16:00.

Davies County claimed second with 128 points and an average of 17:34, while Greenwood tallied 136 team points and a 17:41 average.

Webster’s team total came from individual scores of 9, 14, 20, 51, and 77. The team average was 18:04.

Trevor Baker once again paced the Trojans in the race, capping the regular meet season with a 10th-place 16:46.54.

Garrett West crossed the finish line in 17:05.48 for 15th place.

Layden Wagoner followed closely behind in 21st with a time of 17:21.42.

Preston Glassco ran the course in 18:53.29 for a 58th-place finish, and Bryce Nelson rounded out the team’s score with 97th place in 20:14.15.

Liam Farris ran a 20:40.97 meet for 112th.

Rock Bridge’s Andrew Hauser was the top individual runner with a time of 15:31.98.

GirlsThe Lady Trojans did not enter enough runners in the meet to qualify as a team in their final outing of the regular season.

The girls’ race consisted of 141 runners and 14 teams.

Mayci Moore was the top runner for Webster, claiming 18th place with a time of 21:13.83.

Grayson Haynes finished in 24:38.26 for 56th place.

Emily Major was 132nd with a time of 33:46.05, and Milky Utley was 137th in 37:57.42.

Carolyn Ford of Rock Bridge was the top finisher in the meet with a time of 18:01.99.

Rock Bridge also took the top team spot with 23 team points. The Columbia, MO, school was followed by Davies County in 2nd with 63 points, and Greenwood in 3rd with 110 points.

Webster County has a couple of weeks to prepare for the First Region Class AA meet on Saturday, Oct. 23. The races will be held at the Trigg County Sports Complex in Cadiz. Times were not listed at press time.
