When the Houston Cougars take to the court on Saturday to face Baylor for a spot in the NCAA Championship game, they take with them a freshman center with close ties to Webster County.

Kiyron Powell, a 6-8 center who graduated from Bosse High School in Evansville, is the son of PHS basketball standout Teresa Powell and PHS graduate Kiylon Scott.

Though the freshman hasn't seen much playing time this season, he is widely regarded as the biggest cheerleader on the Cougars' bench.

Powell finished his high school career at Bosse as the school's all-time leading career rebounder. Along the way he led Bulldogs to the Southern Indiana Athletic Conference regular-season and conference tournament championships, averaging 14.6 points, 12.4 rebounds, 7.9 blocks and 3.6 assists per game.

Tomorrow's game is scheduled to start at 4:15 p.m.
